Cedar Rapids Wins International Award
Cedar Rapids received the International Downtown Association Award of Distinction this week for the city’s plans for a permanent flood protection system and the Neighborhood Planning Process. Over 4,100 citizens spent 6,000 hours creating those plans. Congratulations!

City Debuts New Vacuum Trucks
Ten new loose leaf vacuum trucks will be hitting the streets on October 5. This year leaves will be collected on the same day as your regular garbage and recycling collection day. Be sure to rake the leaves near the curb or on the driveway, not into the street.

Fall Leaves 

Fall Leaf Tour on Oct. 8
Travel with the Parks & Recreation Department to view the fall foliage along Iowa’s Great River Road. The $50 trip includes tours of apple orchards and a late lunch at Breitbach’s in Balltown.

Walk for Your Community on Sept. 24
Several local agencies and concerned citizens are holding the second Walk for Community on Thursday. They want to bring the community together to raise awareness and show resistance to crime in their neighborhoods.

Residential Flood Debris Removal Ends Nov. 26
The City will no longer collect residential flood debris from the Flood of 2008 after November 26, 2009 because FEMA reimbursement for this service runs out. So far, over $5.6 million has been spent on this service.

The Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization is gathering community input on how well the current transit services are meeting community needs and identifying future service ideas. Record your comments online.

Fall Ghost Stories Events on Oct. 2 & 30
Toast marshmallows and drink hot cocoa around the bonfire as storyteller Darrin Crow and friends conjure up things that go bump in the night. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $3 for children.

Oak Hill Cemetery Tours on Oct. 9 & 10 Take a twilight tour of this beautiful cemetery and meet some of the residents who have made it their home. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and teens.
