New City Park The new Prairie Park Fishery, located at 2125 Otis Road SE, is open to the public. The new park provides opportunities for fishing, ice fishing, picnicking, paddle sports, scuba diving and geocaching. New Fire Engine in Service The new Engine #8 was placed into service this week from Fire Station #8, 100 Wiley Boulevard SW. It’s a 2010 Pierce Velocity Triple Combination Pumper with 1,500 gallons per minute pumping capacity and a 20-gallon foam cell to smother “stubborn” fires. READ MORE>>

Fall Leaf Collection Starts Oct. 4 The City will operate its leaf vacuum trucks from October 4 through December 10. You can expect the collection of leaves on your regular garbage day unless the trucks are slowed by weather or volume. $6.6 Million for Two Fire Stations The Fire Department was awarded a $6.6 million state I-JOBS grant last week. Five million dollars will be used to construct a new Central Fire Station. The other $1.6 million will be used to construct a new west side fire station. READ MORE>>

$1.075 Million for Levee & Floodwall The Parks and Recreation Department was awarded a $1.075 million I-JOBS grant last week. The funds will be used to construct a levee and floodwall along the west bank of the Cedar River from 3rd Avenue SW to approximately H Avenue SW. READ MORE>>

Construction Project Updates • C Avenue NE from Huntington Ridge Road to East Main Street: The concrete finishing work and hot mix asphalt pavement widening may be complete in about four weeks. • East Post Road Bridge Replacement: The underground utility work is complete. Paving begins this week. The project should be completed by the end of October. READ MORE>>

Construction Project Updates • 1st Avenue East from 17th Street to Cottage Grove: Pipe and pavement repairs are complete on the north and center sections of the roadway. Pavement repairs continue on the south side. • 16th Avenue SW from West Post Road to Stoney Point Road: Asphalt paving and new concrete pavement continues. Sidewalk installation will begin soon.
