Lady Liberty Rededication on June 1
Mayor Corbett will host a rededication ceremony on June 13 at 10:30 a.m. for the newly-refurbished Lady Liberty statue on the First Avenue Bridge in downtown. Local boy scouts will rededicate their gift to the citizens of Cedar Rapids.

See the Signs of Progress underway in our community on a motor coach tour this summer. More than 3/4 of a billion dollars is being invested in our community right now. You can tour the sights on July 16 or August 6 for $25.

New Garbage Can: GARBY 
Garbage collection is changing to an automated collection system. Every household will receive a new 35-gallon GARBY cart between July and September of this year. Your old garbage bin can be recycled. Learn more during June open house events.

Greene Square Park Market Open
The Greene Square Park Farmers’ Market, 400 4th Avenue SE, is open every Thursday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. until August 25. Plants, flowers, fruits, vegetables, meat, honey, and baked goods are available for sale.

Summer Safety Boot Camp for Kids
The Fire and Police Departments, with the Linn County Safe Kids Coalition, is holding a Summer Safety Boot Camp for children in grades three through five from August 1 through 5. The one week session costs $40.

Emerald Ash Borer is Coming
The Emerald Ash Borer is a destructive insect that attacks and kills ash trees. It has been spread in firewood and nursery stock. Please use local firewood for your home or camping experience this summer to limit its spread.

Give Your Input on Charter 
The Charter Review Commission was appointed by the City Council to recommend any amendments to the City’s Home Rule Charter that was adopted in 2005. The Commission is gathering feedback from citizens via email now.

The City Council meeting times will change during the summer months. The meetings scheduled for second Tuesdays of the months of June, July and August will begin at noon. The meetings scheduled for the fourth Tuesdays of the months of June, July and August will begin at 4:30 p.m.
