New Animal Care & Control Facility
You're invited to a public open house next week about the construction of the new Animal Care & Control facility being built on the Kirkwood Community College campus. Stop by the Community Room at the Police Station on April 18, between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. to see the designs.

Leaf Vacuum Service Underway
We began vacuuming leaves last week and will continue through April 27.  You can expect leaf collection on your regular garbage day unless the trucks are slowed by weather or volume. Be sure to place leaves in long rows on the grass or parking area beside the street for collection.

CR RAGBRAI Route Announced
The route of the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa™ through Cedar Rapids city limits was announced last week. The community theme, concert location and campground locations were also announced. Host homes and volunteers are needed for the event on July 26 and 27.

Plant Some Shade
The Public Works-Forestry Program and its community partners are providing 160 trees to residents on April 19 between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. You can purchase up to two shade trees at a reduced rate of $30 per tree. Advance purchase is recommended.

Summer Day Camps for Kids
The Parks & Recreation Department is hosting weekday camps for kids age six to 12 starting June 11. The "For Kids Only!" summer day camps will be held at Noelridge and Cherry Hill Parks. The cost is $112 per week for residents. Call 286-5731 to register.

Commercial Demolition Notification
We continue to demolish residential and commercial structures severely damaged in the Flood of 2008. This week, we began demolishing a series of 32 commercial structures. These demolitions are funded by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.

2012 Assessment Notices
The City Assessor mailed assessment notices earlier this month to properties with assessments that have changed since 2011. Property owners that are not satisfied with the assessment may file a petition with the Board of Review between April 16 and May 7, 2012.
